Been stuck in my car waiting for my wife to finish work so I've been wondering how to get movies to play on the infotainment screen. I've heard of USB playback but not sure if that means plugging in a drive or just connecting my phone. The VIM route is well covered so I know that's not an option. If anybody has a workaround, I'd appreciate it.

Most car infotainment systems that support USB video playback usually mean plugging in a USB drive, like a flash drive with movie files on it. if you connect your phone, it just usually allows for music playback or using apps like Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

My friend uses a separate device like a tablet or portable DVD player if they want to watch something.

Using a flash drive is the intended method, so that's the next bridge I'll have to cross. I appreciate you taking the time to respond.
