im new to the vw family so i have a question about the fuel economy. my arteaon almost never goes over 30 at highway speeds and in the city its hovering around 20 which is less than the claim. I dont drive aggressively so im confused if im doing something wrong or is it a problem with the car

I heard driving really slow will hurt the engine because it wouldn't sufficiently heat the oil allowing contaminants to buildup. But I'm sure if you maintain it properly it'll be okay

Most likely not a problem with the car. You mentioned you're relatively new so kindly wait a while as your MPG might still improve. And do you take short trips? Which climate are you in? These are just some of the questions you should check. Avoid stop/go traffics, too! Just really bad for you.

here's the deal, vw's EPA claims are fantasyland numbers most of the time. Real world driving never matches that, and arteon is a big, heavy AWD sedan with a turbo, it's not gonna sip fuel like a corolla and you're barely hitting 30 on the highway and getting around 20 in the city, that's actually pretty normal. so unless your tires are bald, pressures are low, or your brake caliper is probably dragging you most likely aren't doing anything wrong, just vw being optimistic on paper.
